Emergency Car Unlocking

EMERGENCY CAR UNLOCKING — 24/7

Locked Out Of Your Car In Leicester? We'll Get You Back In.

Non-destructive entry, any hour, anywhere in Leicester — at home, at work, in a car park or at the roadside. No call-out fee, and no damage to your locks, seals or paintwork.

Is a child or pet locked inside the car?

Call 999 immediately — do not wait for a locksmith. A car interior heats up dangerously fast in warm weather, and the emergency services can attend and force entry far quicker than any trade callout. Ring us afterwards if you need the lock or glass repaired.

RIGHT NOW

Locked Out This Minute? Do This.

Practical steps while you're standing there, in the order worth doing them:

  • Check every door and the boot. It sounds obvious, but some vehicles unlock by zone and it's surprisingly common for one door to be open when the others aren't.
  • Look for the hidden mechanical key. Most keyless fobs contain an emergency blade, usually released by a small catch, and most cars have a concealed keyhole under a cap on the driver's door handle. A dead fob often isn't a lockout at all.
  • Check whether anyone else has a spare. A partner, family member or colleague with the second key is usually quicker and cheaper than any locksmith.
  • Move somewhere safe if you need to wait. If you're on a dark roadside or an isolated car park, wait somewhere well-lit and visible rather than beside the vehicle.
  • Then call us. Have the make, model and your location ready. If the key is visible inside the car, mention that — it changes the job.

HOW WE GET IN

What Non-Destructive Entry Actually Means

Non-destructive entry means opening the vehicle using specialist tools and technique rather than force — no drilling the lock, no breaking glass, no prying at door frames. Done properly, there's nothing to show it happened afterwards.

Modern cars make this more delicate than it used to be. Door frames carry side-impact sensors, weather seals split if stretched wrong, and window regulators are easily bent. That's why technique matters more than tools: the wrong approach turns a lockout into a repair bill for the very door you were trying to open.

Every job is different, and the right method depends on the vehicle, the lock type and where the keys actually are. What stays constant is the aim — you get back into the car, and the car isn't damaged doing it.

Being honest about the limits: in a genuinely rare case a vehicle or situation may not permit non-destructive entry at all. If that's where we end up, you'll be told before anything is done, not after.

COMMON SITUATIONS

The Lockouts We Get Called To Most

Whichever of these you're dealing with, the first call is the same — but knowing which one it is helps us bring the right approach.

Keys Locked Inside

The classic. Keys on the seat, the dash or in a coat, doors shut behind them. Straightforward non-destructive entry and you're back in.

Keys Locked In The Boot

Extremely common at supermarkets and retail parks - shopping goes in, keys go down, boot closes. Some vehicles need a different route in than a standard door lockout.

Key Snapped In The Lock

Part of the key is in the barrel and part is in your hand. Needs careful extraction to avoid damaging the lock itself - see broken key repairs.

Fob Dead, No Spare

The battery has died and there's no obvious way in. Often solvable with the hidden mechanical blade, and if not, we'll open it and sort the fob.

Keys Lost Entirely

Not just a lockout - you also need a way to drive away afterwards. We can gain entry and cut and program a replacement key in the same visit.

Frozen Or Seized Lock

Winter classic. Forcing a frozen barrel is how keys snap, so it's worth stopping and calling rather than turning harder.

PLEASE DON'T

What Not To Try Yourself

Most of the expensive lockout jobs we attend are expensive because of what happened before we arrived, not because of the lockout itself:

  • Coat hangers down the window. The internet loves this one. In practice it bends window regulators, tears weather seals and can catch airbag or side-impact wiring inside the door.
  • Wedging the door frame open. Prying a frame to make a gap distorts it permanently. The door may never seal properly again, and you'll hear the wind noise for the rest of the car's life.
  • Forcing a key that's already sticking. If the barrel is stiff or frozen, more force is how the key snaps off inside it - turning a five-minute job into an extraction.
  • Breaking a window "because it's cheaper". It very rarely is, once you add the glass, the fitting and vacuuming fragments out of the seats and door cavity. The only exception is a genuine emergency with a child or pet inside, where safety comes first and you should be calling 999 anyway.
THE PROCESS

How An Emergency Call-Out Runs

Quick, because that's the entire point.

1

You Call

Make, model, location, and where the keys are. We'll give you a price and a realistic arrival time before setting off.

2

We Come To You

Anywhere in Leicester, any hour. Overnight is often quicker simply because the roads are clear.

3

Ownership Check

A quick check that the vehicle's yours before we open it. It takes a minute, and it's what stops this trade being a car theft service.

4

Non-Destructive Entry

Open, checked over, and no damage. If you also need a key cut, that can usually happen in the same visit.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Emergency Unlocking FAQs

How quickly can you get to me if I'm locked out?

Depending on traffic, your location and the current call-out schedule, attendance is often possible within 30 to 60 minutes. Overnight call-outs are frequently quicker because the roads are clear.

Will unlocking my car cause any damage?

In normal circumstances, no. We use professional non-destructive entry methods designed specifically to avoid damage to locks, seals and bodywork. In genuinely rare cases a vehicle or situation may not permit it, and you'd be told before anything is done.

Are you really available at night and on weekends?

Yes, 24 hours a day including weekends and bank holidays. Lockouts almost never happen at convenient times.

My keys are locked in the boot. Is that different?

Sometimes, yes. Depending on the vehicle it can need a different route in than a standard door lockout, so mention it when you call. It's one of the most common call-outs we get, especially at supermarkets.

What if I've lost my keys entirely rather than locked them in?

Then you need entry and a new key. We can gain access and cut and program a replacement in the same visit for most vehicles, so you're able to drive away rather than just get back in.

Do you need proof the car is mine?

Yes. A quick check that you're entitled to access the vehicle - usually the V5C showing you as registered keeper, photo ID matching the address, or insurance documents. Any locksmith who doesn't check should worry you.

Should I just break a window instead?

Almost never worth it once you add the glass, the fitting and clearing fragments from the seats and door cavity. The exception is a genuine emergency with a child or pet inside - in that case call 999 immediately rather than waiting for anyone.

Can you unlock vans and commercial vehicles?

Yes - Transit, Vivaro, Transporter, Sprinter, Trafic and more, plus agricultural equipment that many locksmiths won't take on.

Is there a call-out fee for an emergency at 3am?

There's no call-out fee at any hour. You get a price on the phone before we set off, and it doesn't change on arrival unless something genuinely different turns up - in which case we tell you first.

The best fix for a lockout is never needing one: a spare key cut in advance costs a fraction of an emergency call-out. And on the security side, according to Thatcham Research, the UK's independent vehicle security testing body, storing a keyless fob in a signal-blocking pouch significantly reduces relay-theft risk.
