Every Manufacturer Does Keys Differently
A car key hasn't been just a piece of cut metal for a long time. Most vehicles built in the last twenty years use a transponder chip that has to be electronically matched to the car's immobiliser before the engine will start — and every manufacturer implements that differently.
Some brands store key data in the engine ECU, others in a separate immobiliser module or the body control unit. Some can be programmed through the diagnostic port in minutes; others need the module reading directly, or a security code retrieved before anything can be written. That's why a locksmith who can do a Ford in fifteen minutes might not be able to touch a Mercedes at all.

Questions About Vehicle Coverage
How do I know if you cover my car?
The quickest way is to ring with your make, model and year. We can usually confirm in under a minute, and we'll tell you honestly if it's one of the rare vehicles that needs a dealer.
Does the age of my car matter?
It affects the method rather than whether we can help. Older vehicles often have simpler systems, while newer ones need programming through the diagnostic port. Both are routine work.
Can you do keys for premium and prestige cars?
Most of them, yes - including Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Jaguar and Land Rover. A small number of very recent models need manufacturer security clearance, and we'll say so upfront rather than waste your time.
What about keyless entry and push-button start?
Those are smart keys, and we program them regularly. They cost more than a basic key because of the technology involved, not because of the badge on the bonnet.
Do you cover vans and commercial vehicles?
Yes - Transit, Vivaro, Transporter, Sprinter, Trafic and more, plus agricultural equipment that most locksmiths won't take on.

Broad manufacturer coverage cuts both ways: the same keyless technology that makes modern cars convenient also introduced relay theft, where signal-boosting equipment captures a fob's signal from inside a house and relays it to the vehicle outside. According to Thatcham Research, the UK's independent vehicle security testing body, storing your fob in a signal-blocking pouch significantly reduces that risk.
